2. What Countries
can I work in ?
At present Humanitarian
Volunteers operate missions in Kenya , Nepal , Tanzania and Ethiopia .
3. What Type of
project will I work on ?
You will work at the
coalface with an Aid Agency or Aid Project in one of the most
impoverished areas of the world. Our projects are normally schools,
orphanages, health centres and income generating projects. We will work
with you to determine where your interests , skills and energy can best
be put to use and select your project accordingly.
4. What will I do
?
You can teach English ,
French or other subjects. You can introduce Music, Drama, Art or IT to
the curriculum. You can teach or organise Sports and Games. You can
assist in social work or counselling. You can help in a children's
orphanage centre.
You may instruct in
Horticulture and Agriculture or help to build and repair. The
possibilities are endless.
5. How long will
my mission last. ?
Your placement will
normally be for a Two Week period. You may of course work for a shorter
or longer period if necessary. Humanitarian Volunteers do recognise
that some volunteers due to family and work commitments can only
participate for a very short time.
6. What are the
costs involved ?
There is a charge to
participate. The participation fees begin at 795 euro. See our costs here page for details of our programmes and

The survival and
success of our volunteer projects and aid agencies is linked directly
your participation fee.
7. What does the
fee include ?
The participation fee
includes your accommodation on the project or nearby for the duration
of your stay. You may be required to share. Your food will be provided

8. What about
Inoculations ?
Travel and working in
developing countries always gives rise to health concerns. It will be
necessary for you to seek advice from a qualified medical doctor. On
balance, you probably will need some inoculations and probably some
medication to prevent malaria.
9. Are there Age
Restrictions ?
Humanitarian Volunteers
accept applications from all age groups between 18 and 80. One of the
truly great things about volunteering is its egalitarian nature. It
does not matter how old or young you are.
10. Do I need
Qualifications ?
Humanitarian Volunteers
do not demand any specific skills or academic standard to work on its
projects. We will however, carefully consider your education and
experience and place you accordingly.
11. What Personal
Qualities do I need ?
You will need a strong
personality and a never say die attitude to carry out change. You will
have to face up to daily challenges, difficulties and frustrations.
You will be expected to
lead by example and to display self confidence and optimism when the
easy way out would be to complain and be negative.
12. How do you
assess my suitability ?
When you apply we will
ask you for the names and contact details of two referees, normally
someone who knows you very well. Teachers, Policemen, Public
Representatives, Employers etc, will be acceptable referees. We will
make contact with them to assess your suitability.
