Humanitarian Volunteers is managed and operated by past and present professional volunteer development workers. They have worked in the harshest conditions in post genocide Rwanda and during the famine in Somalia. Others are presently leaders in the field in the Rescue and Care of Streetchildren.

A genuine concern evolved over the years that there were very few opportunities for Short Term Volunteers, perhaps inexperienced in development work, to contribute their skills and enthusiasm.

Humanitarian Volunteers recognised that there were many people in the developed world that would love to make a personal contribution to humanity. Humanitarian Volunteers recognised that these people wanted to work at the coalface with a humanitarian project or aid agency.

It was established to facilitate Short Term Volunteers to make a significant personal contribution, both physical and financial, to a development project in the Third World. The concept though obvious proved revolutionary.
